He was a Ukrainian fleeing war-torn Europe post-World War Two. He reached Canada through Halifax NS, which placed him in Montreal. From there, he fell in love with the city and the Notre Dame de grace area where he operated his business. OTA jewelry and watchmaker is a family business. All his four children have been through the shop daily to learn how to run the shop. Christina was his firstborn and succeeded as a salesperson at OTA in the 1980s. She has grown ever since. Her time in the shop has enabled her to live her dream because she learnt how to manage a successful business. Matthias Jr. is Kasper’s second child and has worked for OTA Watchmaker and Jewelry Company for over 30 years. He completed jewelry repair and design training in Quebec. His father taught him watch and clock repair the traditional European way when he was 11 years old. OTA is not just a business but a community-oriented family business. Even when it is small, it can still provide the best customer service available anywhere, and people who work here have been able to get to know the customers from many generations.
